Murungai Keerai Kootu
Recipe marathon2# 7th day
Murungai keerai is called drumstick leaves in English. It contains very good iron & folic acid and it helps to improve hemoglobin in blood. It is very good for diabetic patients. When taking proper iron in our regular meal, it helps to reduce weight. I’ve collected some details about Murungai keerai & would like to share with all. Here I’ve added kollu also but its optional.
Ingredients
Murungai keerai leaves – 1 cup
Splitted green gram – ¾ cup
Kollu – 1 hand full
Coconut (grated) – 2 tbs
Red chilly (long) – 2 nos
Urad dal (black gram) – 1 tbs
Jeera – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 2-3 pinch
Salt - as per taste
For tempering
Mustard
Oil – 1tsp
Here I measured 1 cup of keerai means, after separated from the stem, then clean & chopped. Cook splitted green gram & kollu together in cooker, leave it for 3-4 whistles and keep aside. Add little oil in a kadai, fry r.chilli, urad dal; grind it with raw jeera & grated coconut into fine paste. Now cook Murungai keerai with turmeric powder. When it is cooked ¾ th add grinded paste, mix it well & leave it to boil for a while, later add cooked dal into the mixture. Temper it with mustard seeds.
