My amma’s grand ma use to prepare this salad & still continuing. In my in-laws house they call this vazhaithandu kosmalli & ¾ cooked splitted moong will be added into this salad.
Vazhai thandu called plantain stem in English. It is good in calcium & reduces body heat.This is raw preparation of vazhai thandu.
Vazhai thandu – small scale size
Lemon (medium) -1 no
Turmeric powder – 1 ½ tsp
Chilly – 1 no
Ginger (chopped) – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 5 counts
Coriander leaves (chopped) – 1 tbs
Olive oil – 1 tsp
Mustard -1/2 tsp
Asafoedita – 2 pinch
Squeeze lemon in a bowl, add turmeric powder & salt to it. Then chop Vazhai thandu thinly & add it into lemon juice. Now add oil in a kadai, temper it by adding mustard, let it spluts. Add asfoedita, chopped g.chilly, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves. Then add this tempered mixture into the vazhai thandu mix.
Note: when vazhai thandu is cut thinly, the salad taste will be good. To avoid discolor of vazhaithandu, immediately add it into lemon juice after chopped.
